Guys, if I wanted to have a louder echo/delay effect can I boost my delay/echo pedal using a MXR Micro Amp in the loop?
I keep my echo/delay in the fx loop so I'm thinking of placing an MXR Micro Amp pedal just before the echo/delay.....
Would it work like a db switch that some fx loops have?
    Does this make any sense?
    Thanks.
  2. Perhaps but caution. if the poweramp gets to overdrive, the delay will sound BAD
  3. A microamp in the loop will also boost the volume of your preamp and any effects before that too. Is that what you want it to do?

a microamp in the loop will not boost the preamp, it's in the loop. It will raise the overall volume of the amp though, and like stated above, that is fine so long as you don't distort the power tubes too much, as this can happen. The microamp will boost any pedals it comes before, like if it where plugged into the front of your amp and boosting the preamp, if you use it after your pedals, it will not boost them, but just raise the volume of them, if that makes sense....

to the OP,It will raise the volume of the effects like you asked, but it will also be raising the overall signal of the amp, so I don't know if it will give you the desired effect you are seeking.

Thanks guys.ironlung, that's what I was confused about but couldn't quite put my finger on it but now I think I'm kinda getting what your saying and it sounds like it might just work for me but I need to be careful not to drive the power tubes too hard coz I'm mainly after a boost/vol increase on my clean channel.

The problem I'm trying to get around is the fact that my Jub has a big drop in volume between clean and lead. A couple of the songs we do I need the clean channel with some delay/echo, etc. but it needs to be loud and thick (so I use a bit of CE2 chorus) but when I switch to lead channel it's so loud it drowns out the rest of the guys....I've been messing with the vol. knobs on my LP and it's working to a degree but it's not always possible so looking for other ways to smooth out the transitions within and between songs.

Just had a thought........I'll whack my sparkle drive temporarily in the fx loop and try it at the beginning and end of the loop this weekend and see how it works.

Thanks guys that was useful to help me see this clearer.

Best thing to do is buy a microamp from a chain store that accepts returns with no hassel. Buy it and try it, if it doesn't do what you want, then return it. Good luck with it.

ironlung, thanks mate, another good idea.
I'll check with a couple of the on-line ones I've dealt with in the past.
  8. If you put a boost in the loop, won't it boost both channels?
Perhaps you could back off the gain a bit on the dirty channel, and use a pedal overdrive.

I wont be using it when I switch to the lead channel.
My idea is to set the vol on the amp so that my lead channel is at the right level but when I need the clean channel to be a bit louder I can engage the boost in the fx loop then when I need the lead channel again I'll disengage the boost. This way I use my feet and my hands are free to carry on playing. I use the vol control on the guitar but it's not always the best option.
Anyway I'm still trying to figure all this out so it's going to be a bit of trial and error for a little while longer.
